Location
Snåsa Hotell is located in rural surroundings by Snåsavatnet,
45 minutes north of Steinkjer and approx. 2 hours from Trondheim Airport Værnes. If you are driving from the north,
it will take you 3 hours from Mosjøen.

The Church Place Megard and Olavskilden
An old church place where Saint Olaf reportedly drank
the water. The pilgrims visited this place on their journey
to Nidaros, and the place was probably built around the
curative power the Olavskilden obtained. Visit this old
church place, enjoy the serenity, and atmosphere.

A beautiful stone church where the oldest parts date
back to the 12th century.
Vonheim Rural District Museum
A museum with objects from Snåsa's culture and history.
Sandmoen Smallholding
Old smallholding from approximately 1845. The buildings
are representative of what was typical of smallholdings
at that time.
Bøla Rock Carving Field
Bølarein, an approx. 6000 year old rock carving of a
reindeer in life-size. Several new rock carvings have

Horseback riding right into the magnificent nature of Snåsa.

The rare Lady Slipper Orchid grows wildly at Snåsa.
Bergsåsen Nature Reserve
A marked nature trail in central Snåsa. The area has
several cultural monuments but is mainly known for its
varied flora. Chalk escarpment where rare orchids like
Lady Slipper Orchid and Fly Orchid grow.
Roaldstein Fortress (Roaldstein bygdeborg)
A fortress with an approx. 100 m. stone wall in walking
distance from the hotel. Probably used as an outlook
and fire warning system against warlike intruders.
The northernmost fortress in the Trondheim fjord.
Dated from the period 200-600 A.D.

In Snåsa's nature you can experience "where the wilderness whispers".
The Mountain Farms
Gaundalen and Gjefsjø mountain farms are two out
of the three remaining mountain farms still running
in Norway. No roads and far up in the mountains
it is a hike for the experienced mountain hikers.

A farm with houses that are approx. 200 years old.
A permanent settlement with houses and cottages until
1954. The farm is the natural gateway to Blåfjella -
Skjækerfjella National Park.

The popular Holden Mountain Farm (Holden Fjellgård) which is near
the Swedish-Norwegian border.

Outdoor life
The opportunities to be close to nature are excellent in
Snåsa. Both in and outside the national parks there are
almost unlimited opportunities for exploration. We can
offer trips for both mountaineers and hikers.
This applies to both summer and winter. There are
several roads to the national park areas. There are
several areas for swimming and it is also possible to rent
boats. Trips can be organized with food based on local
and cultural traditions. During winter time you can go
skiing in cleared ski tracks. There is also access to an
area where you can drive a snow scooter under

l Hunting and Fishing
Snåsa is well-known for its hunting opportunities.
Every year over 300 moose, 8000 10000 grouse and many
more small games are brought down. This takes place
on both private and government grounds. Snåsa
municipality has over 2500 fishing lakes. In the area
there are several types of fish: trout, Arctic char, burbot,
and eel. You can buy a fishing license at Snåsa Hotel.

Blåfjella - Skjækerfjella National Park
The landscape is characterized by low mountains with
gentle terrain. The highest mountain is Midtliklumpen
which is 1333 meters above sea level. The most
important user interests are linked to south Sami
reindeer husbandry, agriculture, outdoor life, hunting
